SAM Synthetase
The S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) Synthetase is a cytosolic protein the is responsible for catalyzing the reaction between methionine and ATP to produce SAM. SAM functions as the primary methyl donor in numerous methylation reactions. It also plays a major role in in the SAM cycle and cysteine biosynthesis. This protein can be used in conjunction with other proteins to increase the concentration of methyl donors in a culture to help drive forward reactions. When used in conjunction with BBa_K1869000, the CFA synthase, SAM drives the CFA synthesis reaction forward.
