4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPD) speeds up the rate-limiting step in tocopherol biosynthesis. Tocopherols, more commonly known as Vitamin E, are antioxidants that protect the cell membrane from lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species.
