4-coumarate:coenzyme A ligase from N. tabacum
This enzyme catalyses the condensation of p-hydroxycoumaric acid (often called simply p-coumarate) with Coenzyme A, and represents a priming step for engineering the raspberry ketone pathway into E. coli.
When using E. coli, p-coumaric acid can be added to the medium as a feedstock. Levels up to 9mM were tried by Guy Lewy of the Cambridge-JIC 2014 team with no ill effect on the growth of E. coli.
Obtained originally from the lab of Jules Beekwilder and his PhD student Esmer Jongedijk in Wageningen, The Netherlands.
