Zea mays nicotianamine synthase (corn NAS)
Nicotianamine synthase (NAS) catalyzes the trimerization of SAM molecules to form nicotianamine (NA). It is the second enzyme of four used to produce corn phytosiderophores. BBa_K1422500, BBa_K1422502, and BBa_K1422503 are also needed to produce a phytosiderophore. Specifically, this is NAS as coded by the gene nas1 from corn; there are different variations between the different species and between nas1, nas2, nas3, nas4, nas5-1, nas5-2, and nas6. Note: this sequence has been codon optimized for Bacillus subtilis.
