A-Cell Promoter MFA1
This promoter was isolated by taking 500bp upstream of the MFA1 gene of S. cerevisiae, which encodes for the a-factor pheromone produced by MATa cells. This promoter will be activated when α-factor is expressed in an α haploid yeast cell.
Usage and Biology
The mating pheromone a-factor, made by a cells that MFA1 encodes for will bind to the STE3 G protein-coupled receptor on α cells to initiate shmooing, cell cycle arrest, and mating between the two different cell types.
