The protein RepL initiates lytic replication of bacteriphage P1 from an origin within the coding region of the repL gene. This version of repL is intended to be noncoding, and only present the cis element required to act as a lytic origin. For a description of wildtype function, see PMID 15489417. Part is referred to internally as jtk2542.
