Enzymatic Pathway for Desulfurization
Sulfur third most abundant element in crude oil, when hydrocarbons that have sulfur are burnt they release S02 and S03 gases, sulfur reduces the quality of oil while at the same time polluting the earth. We are going to remove the sulfur in petroleum while keeping the hydrocarbon backbone intact because hurting it will have adverse effects on the petroleums quality. We are going to use a 4s pathway found in Rhodococcus spp, we will remove sulfur from the substrate dibenzothiophene (DBT) and convert it to 2-hydroxybiphenyl (2-HBP), a substrate that does not contain sulfur, we are going to do this without breaking the hydrocarbon backbone
