B-carotene (organge pigment) producing operon without PstI sites
B-carotene is an intermeidate in the Zeaxanthin biosynthesis pathway.
The four genes, CrtE, CrtB, CrtI and CrtY, encode four enzymes which sequentially convert farnesyl diphosphate (produced by the mevlonate pathway) into B-carotene.
More information on this biosynthesis pathway may be found on the [http://2007.igem.org/Edinburgh/Yoghurt/Design#Colour_Production Edinburgh Yoghurt Wiki]
