DntR coding region
The protein encoded by DntR recognises the chemical salicylate (a breakdown product in the microbial transformation of the environmental pollutants naphthalene and phenanthrene) and undergoes a conformational change allowing it to bind to, and positively regulate, the promoter for the gene DntA. DntR, therefore, should be used in combination with pDntA to achieve a switch that activates in response to salicylate.
