Fibroblast Growth Factor-1 Receptor Coding Sequence

The Fibroblast Growth Factor-1 Receptor (FGFR-1) is a receptor that is commonly found in melanocytes and is involved with melanocyte differentiation, migration, and division. Malignant melanoma is characterized by abnormally high ligand expression of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF2), otherwise known as the Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (BFGF). The FGFR-1 receptor as a high affinity towards binding to the FGF2 ligand present upon the surface of potentially malignant melanocytes, and therefore may be utilized to detect presence of malignant melanoma tumor.
