VvSTS (Vitis vinifera stilbene synthase)

The Vitis vinifera stilbene synthase (VvSTS) is an enzyme that catalyses the formation of a linear tetraketide intermediate from one 4-coumaroyl-CoA and three malonyl-CoA molecules, followed by cyclisation, decarboxylation, and dehydration reactions to form resveratrol. By introducing it into our chassis creature, we hope that the yield of resveratrol will increase.

Biology and Usage

VvSTS gene was introduced into tobacco for the synthesis of resveratrol. Tobacco itself does not have the ability to synthesize a large amount of resveratrol. We hope to demonstrate the superiority of our chassis by introducing VvSTS enzyme into tobacco plants to convert the carbon flux of the shikimic acid pathway into the product of resveratrol. The gene was derived from EF192465.1 of the NCBI library, and we optimized its codon to adapt to Nicotiana benthamiana.
