Beta-glucosidase

It is used to degrade cellobiose to glucose.

Usage and Biology

CglT(NCBI accession number - KP401766.1) is a β-glucosidase - whose main role is breakdown of the oligosaccharides produced as a result of the activity of endoglucanases and the exoglucanases into glucose(synergy). This could be depicted by the drastic increase in the amount of reducing sugars upon hydrolysis of substrates such as PASC and Avicel.

CglT is a highly thermostable molecule, which converts cellobiose and other oligosaccharides into glucose in a very efficient manner. Cellobiose doesn’t have any kind of inhibitory effect on the enzyme - which serves as a great advantage for use in industrial applications.
