siRNA against the ODC gene

The ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) gene is a polyamine biosynthesis gene in Fusarium oxysporum, a pathogenic fungus responsible for causing chilli wilt. This gene is necessary for the pathogen's development, which is why it was chosen as a target.

Previous studies have been made to analyze the effect of silencing this gene. The results didn’t present any anomalies in the plant ODC gene expression, polyamine levels, or morphology, being highly specific against the spore phase of the fungal pathogen [1]. It has also been demonstrated that it is possible to transfer siRNAs from host plant cells the fungal cells of F. oxysporum [1].
