CRISPR CasA (Ancestral)
The E. coli CRISPR system uses the CASCADE complex to target invasive DNA. CasA is the first subunit of the CASCADE complex and is responsible for the initial identification of invasive DNA. The ancestral version of this has been reconstructed using the seed sequences from the PFAM data base by creating a phylogenetic tree using PhyML and then using the WAG method in PAML with Lazarus. This part can be used with casBCDE to create the full CASCADE protein complex.
