A-Cell Promoter STE2 (backwards)
This promoter was isolated by taking 500bp upstream of the STE2 gene of S. cerevisiae, which encodes the α-factor pheromone receptor found on mating-type a cells. This promoter will be activated when a factor is expressed in an a haploid yeast cell. This is the same sequence as the STE2 promoter(BBa_K11009), but with suffix and prefix switched (right to left).
Usage and Biology
The receptor encoded by STE2 is a seven transmembrane-domain G protein-coupled receptor that binds to α-factor secreted by MATα cells to initiate the shmooing, cell cycle arrest, and the signaling response that leads to mating between haploid a and α cells.
