Physiological functions of NHR8
NHR8 is required for gut function and may respond to the food signal.
The nhr-8 gene mutants have abnormally low resistance to the toxins colchicine and chloroquine.
This resembles the regulation of protective metabolic enzymes by xenobiotic-sensing nuclear receptors. NHR-8 may thus mediate a subset of the resistance traits promoted by PGP-3.
Possible applications of NHR8 LBD
This LBD can be fused with different DBDs forming a composite hormone receptor for ligand regulated expression of specific genes and can also be a sensor for various lipid natured molecules.
