Feruloyl-CoA Synthetase (FCS) from Streptomyces, FCS-Str, catalyses the fourth step in our vanillin biosynthesis pathway. It converts ferulic acid into feruoyl-CoA, avtivating it through CoA-thioesterification.
We tested two alternate FCS enzymes for this pathway step; this enzyme from Streptomyces, and also a homolog from Pseudomonas putida (K5443011).
This part builds on the work of earlier iGEM teams, who contributed FCS Parts as follows: BBa_K4256007
