Feruloyl-CoA Synthetase activates ferulic acid by converting it into feruloyl-CoA as the third step in the vanillin biosynthesis pathway. The process involves the activation of FA through CoA-thioesterification. We tested two FCS enzymes for this pathway step; this enzyme from Pseudomonas, and also a homolog from Streptomyces.
