secA

SecA is a key component of the Sec translocation pathway in bacteria, responsible for driving the transport of proteins from the cytoplasm to the cell membrane or extracellular environment. It functions as an ATPase, providing the energy needed to push preproteins through the SecYEG translocon. In systems like Bacillus subtilis, SecA plays a critical role in exporting proteins such as enzymes and biosurfactants, including surfactin. Overexpression of SecA can enhance the secretion efficiency of these proteins, leading to higher yields in biotechnological applications like surfactin production.
