Pyruvate oxidase (SpxB)

This is the pyruvate oxidase from Streptococcus pneumoniae R6. It catalyzes the formation of hydrogen peroxide by oxidizing pyruvate in the reaction: pyruvate + Pi + O2 --> acetyl-P + CO2 + H2O2.

SpxB has several cofactor binding sites: FAD (each subunit binds 1 FAD), Mg2+ (each subunit binds 1 Mg2+), thiamine diphosphate (each subunit binds 1 thiamine pyrophosphate)
