TDC

Tdc can remove the carboxyl group from 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and convert it into serotonin (5-hydroxytryptophan, 5-HT). Tryptophan decarboxylase exists widely in animals and plants, especially in the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. 5-HTP is a precursor substance of neurotransmitter 5-HT, which is an important neurotransmitter, serving as intestinal motor in terms of intestinal physiological function, and plays a vital role in alleviating chronic constipation.

The synthesis of 5-HT

Usage and Biology

In our 5-HT producing circuit, tdc and tph together catalyze the generation of 5-HT, when sensing a decrease in butyrate concentration. Experimental results about our 5-HT producing circuit can be found in our composite part BBa K4656007.
