fuGFPy (Yellow Shifted free-use GFP)

freeuse Green Fluorescent Protein-Y, a yellow shifted GFP that fluoresces under blue light.

This part is a variant of fuGFP (Part:BBa K3814004) which was originally designed to create a GFP variant not protected by patents and able to facilitate any kind of research. Using PCR with degenerate primers we introduced the S66G mutation in the fluorophore to create fuGFPy. The variant has a yellow-shifted excitation peak (figure 1). We have also created a fusion protein of fuGFPy connected to a cellulose-binding domain which allows it to be immobilised on cellulose (Part:BBa K4488019).
