aceE,Alternate metabolic pathway

This part contains the coding region of the aceE protein. aceE gene is a pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) gene from E. coli MG1655. aceE protein is a component of the PDH complex and catalyzes the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA and CO2. It can function well in aerobic environment. In our project, we inserted aceE gene into Clostridium tyrobutyricum (C. tyrobutyricum) to make the bacteria facultative anaerobic. aceE protein expressed in C. tyrobutyricum can carry out the function of PFOR which is inactivated under aerobic conditions and maintain the energy metabolism of the bacteria in aerobic environment.
