N-terminal beta-lactamase - half of the gene that encodes beta-lactamase (AmpR). It can fuse with C-terminal beta-lactamase to fully assemble beta-lactamase that has the ability to hydrolyze nitrocefine allows beta-lactamase to be used as a reporter protein where solution color is changing.
