Ribose Binding Protein (RBP)
Sequence of the Ribose Binding Protein from Escherichia coli.
Usage and Biology
The ribose binding protein (RBP) is a periplasmatic receptor protein found in E. coli. If it binds ribose it changes conformation. Through the force of the molecular interactions with ribose from both sides of the molecules it is slightly tiltet in the middle. Conformational change allows the entry of the ligand in the cell and further interactions of the receptor with other molecules of the following signal cascade. [1] The structure of RBP is depicted in Figure 1.
