Bacillus subtilis gsiB promoter(pgsiB)

Promoter of gsiB gene that is regulated/controlled by SigB(σB). SigB is a general stress response transcription factor in Bacillus subtilis. In absence of SigB PgsiB is unable to show expression hence, this could be used to activate genes under stress conditions that affect SigB.[1]

Usage and Biology

Due to stress based activation, PgsiB can be used to induce gene expression under specific conditions. For e.g., by overexpression of YtvA (BBa_K3889026) which is a blue light sensor in Bacillus subtilis that upregulates SigB under activated state, a light-inducible system could be formed. Such a system could be used to make kill switches in order to prevent biocontamination or for other light-dependent functions.
