pLEU2-LEU2
Usage and Biology
In yeast, the LEU2 gene encodes a β-propyl malate dehydrogenase, which catalyzes the third step of leucine biosynthesis, the conversion from β-isopropyl malate to α-ketoishaproic acid. Because β-isopropyl malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.85) is quite conserved in its regulatory mechanism and primary structure, LEU2 gene is a useful selection marker in a variety of yeast.
