Type I toxin-antitoxin system is one of the five types of toxin-antitoxin systems found in prokaryotes. The antitoxin gene encodes an RNA binding with the mRNA of toxin gene to inhibit its expression. The toxic protein is may be a small hydrophobic protein that disrupt cell membrane. sokA is the antitoxin RNA that binds to its antisense mRNA which expresses toxin HokA and inhibits its expression.
