Component of microcin MccPDI (Microcin Proximity Dependent Inhibition) synthesis and immunity cluster (all 5 genes of the cluster are essential for the proper synthesis ans secretion of microcin PDI). Encodes a homolog of the HlyB protein of type I secretion system that interacts with TolC (chromosomally encoded). More precisely, McpB contains transmembrane domains as well as nucleotide binding domains which have highly conserved motifs characteristic of the ABC transporter superfamily of proteins. It is recquired for the secretion of microcin PDI and works in complement with McpD.
