Surface (S)-Layer Protein Constitutive Promoter for Lactobacillus sp.

P-slp is a constitutive promoter which can be used in Lactobacillus reuteri 10023C, and may have uses in other Lactobacillus species.

The (S)-layer protein (slp) promoter is derived from Lactobacillus acidophilus and is responsible for the high level of transcription of stable mRNAs coding the S-protein monomers1,2. It was previously characterised in six strains of Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactococcus lactis spp. cremoris MG13633.
The promoter shows high activity in L. lactis spp. cremoris MG1363, but low activity in L. reuteri.
