LldP (L-lactate permease)

E.coli, lldP is an inner membrane permease involved in the uptake of L-lactate, D-lactate and glycolate [Dong et al., 1993; Nunez et al., 2002]. The lldP gene is located in a lactate-inducible operon with the lldD and lldR genes encoding a lactate dehydrogenase and a regulatory protein, respectively. By overexpressing a plasmid carrying this enzyme, the bacteria is able to uptake twice the amount of these three substrates, L-lactate, D-lactate and glycolate.
