pMreB
MreB, a homologue of actin, is a protein which is expressed in nearly all rod-shaped bacterial cells. It is one of the three types of actin-like filaments present in bacteria. MreB is important for maintenance of cell width and cell viability as it recruits the machinery responsible for the establishment of peptidoglycan, an essential building block for the cell wall.
