Feruloyl-CoA synthase (fcs)

The gene is from Pseudomonas fluorescens. The sequence was submitted to GeneArt for synthesis including codon optimisation (Pseudomonas has a very high GC content whereas E. coli and Lactobacillus have much lower GC content).

  • encodes feruoyl CoA synthase (ligates acetyl-CoA onto ferulic acid)
  • produces feruloyl CoA from ferrulic acid
  • catalyses the penultimate step of the vanillin biosynthesis pathway
