This part contains a fully functional beta-lactamase expression cassette. E. coli beta-lactamase is under control of the constitutive wildtype E. coli promoter. Expression is terminated by the his-operon terminator of pSB1C3.

In this part and related parts, mutations are introduced into the coding sequence. These mutations modify the enzyme activity (see results).
