Crt W (astaxanthin)
Astaxanthin is a high value and natural pink pigment and yet its production relies on two vital protein: Crt-Z and Crt-W. Crt-Z is the protein that involves the regulation of the pigment synthesis pathway, to get astaxanthin, we first need to have a product from its upper pathway, and zeaxanthin is one of the product that it needs to produce astaxanthin, and what Crt-Z does change β-carotene into zeaxanthin. Once we get zeaxanthin, we then need Crt-W to turn zeaxanthin into astaxanthin.
