AANAT Expression

Expression and possibly secretion of enzyme AANAT (aralkylamine N-acetyltransferase) [ Homo sapiens (human) ]. AANAT catalyzes Serotonin into N-acetylserotonin, a Melatonin precursor, and it is the rate-limiting step in Melatonin production. (Zheng 2002) Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is responsible for regulating circadian rhythms such as the sleep cycle and seasonal behaviors such as color change and reproduction in animals.(Lincoln 2003) In humans, AANAT is secreted in the Pineal gland. This construct is His-tagged.
