RcfB

The trans-acting protein RcfB, which belongs to the Crp-Fnr family of transcription regulators, is involved in basal activity of P170 and is also essential for pH induction. To our knowledge, no Crp-Fnr protein is known to respond to an acid signal, so it is an remarkable finding that RcfB is activated when the cells are exposed to acid environments. The protein RcfB contains conserved glycine residues, activating regions 1 and 3, D α-helix, and C-terminal helix-turn-helix (HTH) DNA binding motif, which, upon activation, bind a DNA recognition motif within a promoter region and activates transcription.
