This part is made up of the coding sequence of the Cellulose Synthase enzyme, which has been codon-optimised for expression in Escherichia coli. In Gluconacetobacter xylinus, this is contained within the Acs cellulose synthesis operon, a functional unit containing the essential elements for cellulose assembly and secretion to the extracellular space.
