Isopentenyl diphosphate isomerase

Catalyses the formation of dimethylallyl diphophate from isopentenyl diphosphate. This is a rate limiting step for pathways related to isoprenoid production. Because of this, it can be desirable to introduce additional copies of the gene to increase yield.

This part was cloned from the chromosome of a d5alpha e.coli with overhangs containing ribosome binding site B0034 and biobrick restriction sites. As it contained an illegal SpeI site, mutagenization was performed to remove it.

Characterization data from Uppsala iGEM 2013

We were unsucessful in assembling any promoter to the mutagenized construct, and as such could not further characterize the part.
