ampicillin resistance

This sequence codes for a beta-lactamase, which degrades ampicillin and other beta lactam antibiotics. This brick only consists of the ampR gene and lacks a RBS and promoter. Thus it can be used with an RBS or other device of your choice.

Usage and Biology

The ampicillin resistance gene is used as a selection marker and enables cell growth in the presence of ampicillin due to the degration of ampicillin by the beta-lactamase it codes for.
