Autoinducer synthetase RhlI ( producing N-butyryl-HSL) with RBS and double terminator
The RhlI protein is a synthetase which produces the chemical autoinducer signal N-buturyl-HSL. In this device it is combined with a RBS and a double terminator in order to facilitate the construction of an expression cassette containing RhlI.
Usage and Biology
In combination with a promoter of your choice this device can be used to create a RhlI expression cassette. The RBS used will tune a medium expression level. Rate of transcription can be tuned by strength of promoter. The double terminator will prevent further transcription downstream of rhlI.
The N-buturyl-HSL autoinducer molecules produced by RhlI bind to RhlR. This complex will bind to specific sequences in the regulatory region of the rhl promoter and induce gene expression.
