Part:BBa_K901012
AatA Expression Construct
AatA (BBa_K901009) under control of the LacI promoter (BBa_J04500) with double terminator
Part of a 3 enzyme system designed to enhance the production of acetic acid by E. coli in the presence of high levels of sugars. ACK (BBa_K901015) and PTA (BBa_K901019) are enzymes that allow for the metabolism of acetic acid when there are low levels of available glucose. When glucose in the environment is high, these enzymes work in reverse as an overflow pathway for central metabolism, converting excess acetyl-CoA to acetate.
AatA is an ABC transporter found in Acetobacter acetii which moves acetate out of the cell. This enzyme is introduced to drive the production of acetate forward and to confer resistance to high levels of acetic acid in the cellular environment.
