BcsA,cellulose synthetase, catalytic subunit

BcsA,BcsB, BcsZ and BcsC are involved in biosynthesis of cellulose in Escherichia coli. BcsA is considered to be the catalytic subunit for cellulose biosynthesis. The cellulose synthase is located in the cytoplasmic membrane with 8 to 10 predicted transmembrane domains.Besides the high homology to other processive glycosyltransferases, BcsA has been experimentally shown to bind the substrate UDP-glucose.
