UNITS_Trieste Synbiome project

bacteria Intra-strain communication: An E. Coli containing BBa_K553010 constitutively produces the OC12 AHL quorum sensing molecule (Strain A). The ammount of this molecule is enough to induce the activation of part BBa_K553008 (production of OC8 AHL) in a co-cultivated bacteria (strain B).

The following assay demonstrates that the organic extract of a co-culture media contains a considerable ammount of OC8.

OC8 AHL standards used: 1uM; 100nM; 10nM; 1nM

The diffusion from the center of the OC8 AHL generate, in fonction of its concentration, the activation of a biosensor (A. tumefacines) in Xgal LB agar dishes.

Here the HPLC-MS/MS analysis of the co-culture of the strain A and B.

Even a very linle production of OC12 is able to induce a good production of OC8.
