shRNA(Rbfox1)

To combat mosquito populations, shRNA (Rbfox1), a short hairpin RNA, is engineered to target mosquitoes' Rbfox1 gene (also Ataxin 2-binding protein gene, or A2BP1 gene), which encodes evolutionarily conserved RNA binding proteins crucial for neural, immune, reproductive and muscular development, utilizing RNAi technique. When shRNA(Rbfox1) in the freeze dried inactivated yeast cells are digested by mosquitoes, they will be processed into small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), and further specifically target mRNA(Rbfox1) to achieve degradation. This targeted interference results in neural misfunctions in mosquitoes, eventually causing their deaths without any harm to other non-target organisms.
