LicTCAT-ViViD fusion protein, also called LicV, is a transcriptional antitermination protein. It is composed of an N-terminal RNA-binding domain (coantiterminator (CAT)) derived from LicT and Vivid(VVD), a small LOV domain-containing protein that could form a dimeric structure quickly in blue light. Illumination could facilitate the dimerization of the fusion protein, consequently augmenting its affinity for the ribonucleic antiterminator (RAT) RNA sequence, thus preventing the formation of an RNA terminator stem–loop structure. When the light is removed, LicV doesn't bind to the RAT sequence, allowing the formation of the terminator hairpin structure which prevents the expression of genes downstream.
