ShZIS

Zingiberene synthase, abbreviated as ShZIS, derives from Solanum habrochaites, an accession of the wild tomato species. By utilizing three isoprenoid units, ZIS catalyzes the formation of sesquiterpenes, a compound with 15 carbons. Intermediates that are commonly used include isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP), dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP), and (E,E)-α-farnesyl diphosphate (FPP). In our context, we specifically express the recombinant zingiberene synthase, LA2167-ZIS, to produce 7-epiZingiberene from its substrate 2Z,6Z-farnesyl diphosphate (2Z,6Z-FPP).
