spider silk protein MaSp2

MaSp2 encodes for spider silk, which is a highly repetitive amino acid sequence and has the properties of being strong, flexible, and elastic. This amino acid sequence is relatively short compared to other amino acid sequences for spider silk proteins listed in the paper by Tian et al, 2003. The purpose of genetically modified MaSp2 is to make our scoby membrane more flexible and softer. Tian M. Expression and Purification of A Synthetic Spider Silk Protein In Arabidopsis thaliana. Master thesis. University of Wyoming; 2003.
