AgBP2
We read about the silver-binding peptide AgBP2 selected from a combinatorial peptide display library and we engineered it onto the Shewanella membrane protein (bpfA-AgBP2). When localized to the periplasm of a laboratory strain of Shewanella, it confers tolerance to silver nitrate and results in the decoration of cells with electron-dense nanoparticles. AgBP2 captures silver ions and paves the way for a new approach to synthesizing silver nanoparticles which accelerates extracellular electron transfer.
