BFP
Usage and Biology
This blue fluorescent protein (BFP) one of the 19 variants of Aequorea victoria derived green fluorescent protein (GFP). This BFP differs from its predecessor in that it contains a tyrosine (Y) to histidine (H) substitution at position 66. This Y66H substitution results in the board excitation close to 380 namometers and emission at 448 namometers. This BFP variant carries an additional modification, the addition of a mammalian codon directly downstream of the start methionin allowing its expression in mammalian cells.
